British Sailor Alex Thomson has finished second in the Vendée Globe, making history by becoming the fastest Brit to sail solo, non-stop with no assistance around the world in a monohull.

After 74 days, 19 hours and 35 minutes at sea, British sailor Alex Thomson reached the finish line of the Vendée Globe on his boat HUGO BOSS at 7:37 UTC Friday 20th January 2017. He was greeted by thousands of people who flocked to Les Sables d’Olonne in France to witness his triumphant return.

Thomson’s yacht is the latest generation racing machine, equipped with two hydro-foils which give the boat lift and reduce displacement, a revolutionary development in the class of offshore sailing.
